Began playing guitar at age 4 and studied classical guitar at Hart Conservatory of music from age 8-12. Joe was lead guitar for “Ike and Tina Turner” from 1974-1976. Recording and performance credits include Bill Withers (greatest hits album), Chaka Khan, Vickie Sue Robinson, Lauren Wood, Jesse Martin (“Law and Order”, “Rent”), Cheryl Ladd, Vince Gill and Amy Grant to name a few. Smokin’ Joe has performed all over the world from the “Superdome” in New Orleans, to “Carnegie hall” in New York City.

The original "Rocket 88" by "Ike Turner and the Kings of Rhythm" was recorded in 1951 and is considered by "Rolling Stone" rock historians as the first rock and roll recording.
